Volunteer Opportunities

The following volunteer opportunities are currently available.  Please call the Walton County Extension Office at 850-892-8172 if you have questions or if you’d like to sign up to help.

Camp Conservation – January 30

Walton County 4-H needs volunteers to help at our table on Saturday, January 30th from 8am-2pm.  We will have interactive displays, tree ring necklaces for the kids, info on current clubs and activities, and 4-H staff on hand to answer any questions.  Officers and club members are welcome.

Cancer Freeze – February 6

This years’ Cancer Freeze is at Lake Jackson in Florala on Saturday, February 6th.  Teens and adults are needed to help with inflatable slides and serve chili.  The time is from 11am – 1pm.  Volunteers are asked to arrive by 10:45am.  The event will help benefit a child with brain cancer, whose parent is a 4-H alum.

Quilting With the Stars – February 12-13

The Chautauqua Quilters Guild is having a quilt show on February 12th and 13th at the DeFuniak Community Center (361 N. 10th Street).  They are looking for volunteers willing to climb ladders to hang quilts on Thursday, February 11th from 8am-12pm.  Additionally the quilts will need to come down on Saturday, February 13th from 4pm-6pm.

Farm Safety Day- February 15

4-H is teaming with multiple organizations in the community (Panhandle Cattlemen’s, Farm Bureau, Walton County Fair board, WCSO, WC city police, WCSO posse, FWC, Chelco, Gulf Power, and more) to deliver a day camp all about safety around the farm and home!  You will need to arrive by 7-7:30am (depending on your job) and be prepared to stay until 4pm.  Needs include:  registration table, group leaders, group assistants, lunch prep and serving, floaters, goody bag stuffers.

Cloverbud Day camp- March 11

Volunteers needed to assist with activities, lunch, break, etc.  Camp begins as 8 and ends by 1pm.

Stitch Perfect Quilting Camp- March 28-31

This is a week long 4-H day camp during Spring Break that focusing on all skills of sewing and quilting along with 4-H no-sew activities!  Volunteers will be needed to assist adult volunteers and the 4-H staff for activities, lunch, breaks, etc.  The days will start at 8 and end at 4pm.
