4-H History

When 4-H clubs first began in 1905, almost everyone in Florida lived on farms. The first boy clubs were known as Pig and Corn Clubs, and the first girl clubs were called Tomato Clubs.

Boys in the Pig and Corn Club would try and grow an acre of the biggest ears of corn. Girls would grow, harvest, and can tomatoes from their family's garden. Growing corn and canning tomatoes were not a game to these boys and girls. Their learning benefited the entire family. These pioneer 4-H'ers learned from County Extension Agents.

Today's 4-H members live in the city, on the farm, and everywhere in between. 4-H is for everyone and has something exciting to offer you and your family!
